I see prices go from $49 at Big W up to $249 for a Sony at Myer. Are there
any cheaper online stores to buy those from?

Any cheap place to get an 11 inch photo frame?

Once you go past the 8" your into the humongous range.
10.5" won't get any change from a $150, and MOST of those online
shops have zero stock on everything and good luck with the warranty.
The Sony is always going to double the price of everybody else even
though is not any better, probably made by the same mob in china that
make all the cheap crap or more reliable, but just because it has the
word Sony on the side of the box. So your chance of a warranty
replacement on Sony are a lot better, because you've already paid for
it.

If your not worried about warranty then shopbot or getprice or even
dread I say Ebay.

If you believe that you obviously don't have a clue what you
are talking about, and speaking out your arse. If you have
ever seen a sony operating next to any of the cheapies, they
are clearly many times better.

The Sony 7" frame has a resolution of 800x480, whereas the
cheapies are 480x320 or worse. A lot of the Chinese ones
use a 480x234 panel (probably the same brand panel on all of
them) that is F###ing disgusting. I have an AVLABS one here
that I got as a gift, and if I had bought it myself I'd say
I wasted my money. It will probably get passed on as a gift,
cos I never use it, too disgusting. Nearly all of these
cheapies that I've seen also have problems with aspect ratio.

You are always safer buying a name-brand than some generic
cheap chinese made brand - irrespective of the product. The
plus with getting a name brand, is that even if the retailer
falls off the planet, you have the manufacturer to go back to.
As far as frames go, I'd look at Sony, Kodak (the cheaper 7"
is marginal, but the 8" models are very good), and not much
else. Whatever you do, make sure you can see the thing in
operation prior to purchase.

The sony obviously use different components, but they are still
made in sweat shops in china. I was not suggesting they use the
same components, merely the same factories. Like all the others, sony
make very little in Japan now. Only the real expensive stuff is made there.

You're looking at happy snaps, who gives a fuck.

Besides, those things are a novelty, everyone I know who has them never have
them switched on anymore after the first week. What is the point of having
an empty photo frame standing around?

Yeah, I'm amazed at how much some people are prepared to pay for *FAR* less
quality than a 25cent photo and $2 frame!

I'd simply use a TV, or even a photo album when people are actually
interested in looking at a number of pics.

Well, I have mine since a couple of years and it switches on
automatically every evening, so there you go! :-) (Same for

You have a $2 frame that holds 1400 photos!? Wow!

We use all of those, and the digital photo frame is actually *above*
the TV.

It's just a matter of *choice*. Each have their advantages and
disadvantages.

I find the cost offputting, I have the only grandson as wallpaper on SWMBO's
computer the other daughter who only has daughters has not complained & boy
does she know how to. I guess having the gkids closer now that we moved 400
ks makes a diffrence too.

Yep, but the 7" frames simply have very few advantages, and a LOT of
disadvantages.

There are some I know that are absolute camera nutters.
Here's Little Johnny having a tinkle against the wall
Here's Little Johnny having a tinkle against a post
Here's Little Johnny having a tinkle in the backyard
Here's Little Johnny asleep on a train
Here's Little Johnny asleep on a bus
Here's Little Johnny asleep in a car

The list is endless

And then repeat for each year

Not only that, the pictures are in bathroom, on the fridge, in the
living room, bedroom, garage. They have enough pictures to wallpaper the
entire house and still have some left over.

You do realise that "screen savers" actually use more Power than
not running one at all, so how does this save the planet.
There Screen Wasters, and those 3D fishtanks use a massive amount
of Power.

If the screen saver is coming on because of inactivity then that is vastly
more wasteful than having the monitor switch into standby mode.

Exactly, and the Video is running Flat Chat Full-time as it never
gets a break neither does the CPU. also means the fans have to work
harder to keep it cool because it's so busy moving pixels around.
And what's the point if your not there to watch it.
The only people that would see it is everybody except the owner.

And *far* more than having the computer switch to hibernate mode as well.
