If money wasn't a limitation, what place/s on Earth (or even outside
of it) showing in the background, would you most want to take a self-

I think it is the last place anyone goes.

Okay, to clarify, fine place for a self portrait, but not right now, thanks.

I've already been to the other place and taken a self portrait there.
It is not as bad as most people imagine. In fact, it was quite nice
when I was there. I once considered opening a flight school there so I
could be the flight instructor from Hell. Possibly even manufacturing a
light aircraft that would be called the Bat, so people could fly a Bat
out of Hell.

But the population is very small and probably would not support such
enterprises. They have a post office (which postmarks your mail with
big red letters saying "HELL") and they sell t-shirts and the like. The
"Wish You Were Here" postcard is very popular.

I think Deborah would say France, based on her interest in this country,
including the people, culture and food. In fact, she can even speak and
write the language. I on the other hand, would probably say Alaska, simply
because of the open space and beautiful scenery. Of course, with Photoshop,
that is easily accomplished in any case. But admittedly, it's not the same
as actually being there. Yet, I don't feel a self portrait is important of
me standing in front of anything, as is the fact that I was actually there
behind the camera taking the picture in the first place.

So you'll just be taking the classic Facebook/Myspace profile pic in

then? ;)

In order of possibility (highest at top)
and reverse order of desireabilty:

1) The top ... of Mt. Everest
2) The Space Station
3) The top ... of Olympus Mons (on Mars)

The reason is well known ... because they are there.

Aconcagua, Argentina. Amazing mountain. Tallest in Southern
Hemisphere.
Tata-Mai-Lau, East Timor. Only 3Kms but one can see the whole island
from it. Been there before: worth every second, planning to go back
soon.
Top of Uluru, Australia, with Mt Connor and Katatjuta in the
background. Been there, want to go back one day. Awesome doesn't even
begin to define it.

Been thinking about this.

First thought was Nepal.

But I think I've settled on: the wedding of my Great-Grandchild.

Since my own kids have shown no sign of getting married, I may have a
long wait.

It is interesting that few of the suggestions so far are from
people that are happy where they are.

Alan Browne is looking for a more extreme version of what he
loves with "extreme attitudes". My fun airplane was an old
J3 that I once owned. I have great memories of that plane,
sitting alone in the rear seat with the doors folded up and
down well trimmed watching the world go by sticking my hand out
to drag it into a slow turn. Pretty basic stuff, no electrical
system, no radio, just a compass, turn bank, and rate of
rise fall. Fuel gauge was a wire sticking out of the fuel
cap that showed the position of a cork bobbing up in down
in a tube.

My photo place would where I am. Be it walking down the flume
a cascade of water tumbling down 120 feet that is both the
outlet of a lake and is a 3 Km walk from where I type this.
Why? this area is filled with natural beauty, great scenery,
rare plants, and layers of history, pioneers, great fires
logging, Indian settlements, and natural history embedded
in the rocks going back millions of years.

I drive up here throw my keys in the cup holder in my car
so I know where to find them. The absolute feeling of personal
freedom and tranquillity is unsurpassed.

My choice would be any of several places along the Menai Strait in
north west Wales, UK, because it is probably the most beautiful place
I have ever seen.

It is also the site of an iconic suspension bridge that was originally
designed by the great civil engineer, Thomas Telford and was completed
in 1826.

Why? Because it (the top) there.
