Notice how it is from DIRECTLY beneath the A330 and that the underside of
the jet is amazingly well lit despite the sun being above it.

The sun is behind it,

Look at the bright glints on the nose, engine intakes and other bits of the
jet.

If the sun was in front, you'd notice brightness all along the wing's leading
edge slats and the horizontal stabilisers. Do you see anything like that? No.

If the sun was directly above it, you won't be able to tell since you can't see
any of the jet's upper surfaces from below it.

At 37,000 ft. there would be no deep shadow under it. The undercarriage is being
lit by reflected light from the surface and any clouds that might be below it.
If you've ever flown above clouds, you'd know how bright the sunlight reflecting
off them is. Sames goes for open sea. Reflected sunlight off bodies of water can
be very bright.
